Thong Lo is Sukhumvit Soi 55, a long Bangkok street of design-led cafés, speakeasies, restaurants and premium condos that runs north from the BTS for about 2.5 km. It suits nomads, creatives and young professionals who want the city's most fashionable food and bar scene on their doorstep and are willing to pay for it.

Living in Thong Lo
Days start slowly here. Cafés along the soi fill with laptops by mid-morning, and community malls such as The Commons and J Avenue handle brunch, groceries and errands. The soi gets busier as the day goes on, and by evening the restaurants, cocktail bars and rooftop spots are the main event, with Octave at the Marriott one of the best-known views. Weekends start late and run late. The upper soi, towards Phetchaburi Road, is more residential and calmer than the stretch near Sukhumvit. For a slightly quieter version of the same lifestyle, many people drift over to Ekkamai.
Renting in Thong Lo
Housing ranges from new high-rise condos with pools and gyms to older low-rise apartments set back on the side lanes. Studios cost 20,000–32,000 THB a month, one-bedrooms 28,000–50,000 THB a month and two-bedrooms 55,000–110,000 THB a month, and rents per square metre are among the highest in the city outside the prime riverside. Getting around Thong Lo
The area centre sits well up the soi, so BTS Thong Lo on the Sukhumvit Line is about 1.1 km away, Phrom Phong roughly 1.3 km and Ekkamai around 1.65 km. Few people walk that every day. Motorbike taxis wait at the mouth of the soi and at junctions along it, and Grab cars are easy to book. At the northern end, the Khlong Saen Saep canal boat runs west towards Pratunam, a quick escape from rush-hour traffic. Phrom Phong is a short ride away.

Is Thong Lo good for nightlife?
It is one of the city's main nightlife areas for residents rather than tourists. Expect cocktail bars, speakeasies, rooftop bars and a few late clubs, with a well-dressed local and expat crowd. Prices are higher than in Ekkamai or on Khao San Road, and the scene is more about drinks and dinner than all-night partying.
Is Thong Lo more expensive than Ekkamai?
