About

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre — BACC — is the city's main public contemporary art space, in a curving white tower at the National Stadium BTS, directly across from MBK. It opened in 2008 and runs free admission across all nine floors of galleries, the best deal in central Bangkok.

The exhibition spaces spiral up around a central atrium. Floors 7, 8, and 9 carry the rotating curated programme — usually one or two large solo shows from Thai or regional artists, plus thematic group exhibitions. Floors 3 to 5 hold smaller galleries, an experimental theatre, a cinema, and a public art-and-design library. The lower floors are filled with independent shops, cafés, indie publishers, and a small ground-floor art-supply market that runs every weekend.

The programming leans contemporary and political — Thai social commentary, Southeast Asian regional surveys, occasional international travelling shows. The mood is closer to a kunsthalle than a national museum; expect new media, video, installation, and performance alongside paintings and sculpture.

Practical: open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 8pm. Closed Mondays. BTS National Stadium has a direct skywalk into the building from exit 3. The atrium cafés are good rainy-day hideouts; the BACC Library on floor 5 is a quiet, free workspace if you have a few hours and don't need wifi tied to a purchase.
