Living in Siam

Weekdays are full of students. Siam Square's lanes fill with tutoring schools, cafés and fashion shops, and Chulalongkorn's campus brings a steady flow of young people. Malls dominate everything else, from the food hall and supermarket at Siam Paragon to the bargain phones and electronics at MBK. Weekends and school holidays are crowded, with teenagers, tourists and families converging on the same few blocks. The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre by National Stadium station offers a calmer break. Evenings are quieter than in the nightlife districts, and for a home with more space many people look towards Pathumwan or Ratchathewi.

Renting in Siam

Very few condos sit right in Siam, so most residents live a short walk away, around Chulalongkorn, Ratchathewi or Pathumwan. Studios run 22,000–35,000 THB a month, one-bedrooms 32,000–55,000 THB a month and two-bedrooms 60,000–110,000 THB a month, with the higher figures for luxury towers near the interchange. Getting around Siam

Siam station sits right at the centre and is where the BTS Sukhumvit and Silom lines meet, so most of the network is reachable without a second change. National Stadium on the Silom Line is about 550 m west, Ratchathewi roughly 750 m north and Ratchadamri around 900 m south-east. The covered Skywalk runs east to Chit Lom and the Ratchaprasong malls. Traffic on Rama I and Phaya Thai roads is heavy, so the train is almost always faster.
